Sheldon Abril

Operations Director

Sheldon Abril joined the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation as the I.T./Litigation Support Manager in May 2021 and currently serves as NHLC’s Operations Director responsible for supporting all aspect of the firm’s operations, including the management of all systems, tools, and processes the teams rely upon to deliver legal services.

Prior to joining NHLC, Sheldon was a Senior Software Engineer at Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association (HMSA), where he worked for 10 years. He was also a software engineer at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) for approximately 5 years before moving back home to Hawaiʻi.

Sheldon was born and raised in Kaʻūmana on the east side of Hawaiʻi island and currently resides in Laʻi ʻŌpua Hawaiian homestead in the ahupuaʻa of Kealakehe on Hawaiʻi island, with this wife and 3 daughters. Sheldon’s ʻohana is actively involved at Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino (Hawaiian immersion school), where his wife is a kumu and 3 daughters are haumāna. One of his personal goals is to become more proficient in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi so their home can be a place where the language is normalized. In his free time, he enjoys surfing, fishing, camping, and spending time with his ʻohana.
